Nantes winger Simon scores in fantastic fashion to end his longest goal drought in Ligue 1
Published: September 17, 2023Super Eagles winger Moses Simon ended his longest goal drought since his move to the French Ligue 1 as Nantes claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Clermont at the Stade Gabriel Montpied (Clermont-Ferrand) on Sunday afternoon.
The matchday five fixture was settled by a single game and it came from the Nantes number 27 three minutes into the second half.
Prior to today's game, the Nigeria international had not scored in the French top flight for 308 days, with his last goal coming against AC Ajaccio on November 13, 2022,
Simon scored what should be a Goal of the Month contender as he lobbed the Clermont goalkeeper with a first-time effort from 30 meters after receiving a pass from Florent Mollet.
Thanks to Simon's wonder goal, the Canaries won their first away match in Ligue 1 since February 5 against Ajaccio, ending a run of eight games without winning on the road over two seasons (two draws, six defeats).
The 28-year-old went twenty five games without scoring before finishing in fantastic fashion against Clermont.
After five matches in the French top flight, Nantes are occupying the 15th position with five points ahead of the visit of Lorient to La Beaujoire next weekend.
