Ian Wright cites Rooney's move to Man Utd, Arteta to Arsenal as he criticises Everton for selling Iwobi to Fulham
Published: September 20, 2023Arsenal legend Ian Wright has criticized Everton for their decision to sell Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi.
The Toffees ended their 4-year association with the Hale End Academy product in the summer transfer window when they agreed to sell him to Fulham for a fee of 22 million pounds.
Iwobi played a vital role for Everton in preserving their Premier League status in back-to-back seasons before his departure.
In the last campaign, he mustered 7 assists which was the most in the squad and his 9-goal contributions was the second highest which evidences his significance before he left the Merseyside club.
Sean Dyche's men have had a terrible start to the season with and without the Hale end product, they lost the two Premier League matches he appeared in before his departure and have also lost all other games they have played without him.
In quotes relayed by Liverpool Echo, the Premier League Hall of Famer was reported to have said: "Everton have sold, for me, arguably, their best creative player in the last couple of seasons in Iwobi. And they sold him to Fulham.
"This is the level they have dropped to. I am not disrespecting Fulham. We are talking about Rooney to Manchester United, talking about big players, and even Arteta going to Arsenal.
"Players going to big clubs now. Everton are selling certain players, top players, to Fulham. That's how far they have fallen off.
"It has to be pointed at his door, Moshiri's door. Simply because he has come in with the money and he doesn't realise that it's another level of ownership now. He didn't have the expertise for it."
Iwobi made his debut for Fulham in their 1-0 win over Luton Town last weekend when he came on as a second-half substitute for Marco Silva''s side.
