Chelsea Academy Scholar of the Year Boniface scores first PL2 goal in 6-goal thriller against Tottenham
Published: October 03, 2023Chelsea Academy Scholar of the Year for the 2022-2023 season, Somto Boniface scored his first-ever goal for the development squad in a six-goal thriller against Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League 2 encounter on Monday, October 2.
Two England underage internationals of Nigerian descent were in action for Chelsea, with Boniface going the distance and Tyrique George entering the game as a substitute in the 70th minute.
It was honours even at the break as Ronnie Stutter canceled out Yago Santiago's strike in the 19th minute.
In the 56th minute, Boniface lashed home from inside the box to give Chelsea the lead for the first time in the game.
However, goals from Jamie Donley (2) and Nile John ensured Tottenham Hotspur maintained their one hundred percent start to the 2023-2024 Premier League 2 season.
Boniface netted his first goal for Chelsea U21s after logging 259 minutes spread across four matches comprising three in the Premier League 2 and one in the EFL Trophy.
Capable of playing as a left-back and left wingback, Boniface joined Chelsea at U9 level and signed his first professional contract in March 2023.
The 2006-born defender is in contention to represent the Young Lions at the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup.
