Trabzonspor sweating on the fitness of Southampton loanee Onuachu ahead of visit of Alanyaspor
Published: October 19, 2023Trabzonspor are sweating on the fitness of their star striker Paul Onuachu ahead of the visit of Alanyaspor.
According to NTVSpor, the Southampton loanee did not train fully with his teammates on Thursday due to a sprained ankle.
Onuachu did running exercises under the supervision of a physiotherapist in the second part of the training and felt less pain.
Manager Abdullah Avcı will be hoping the Nigeria international shakes off his injury in time for Monday's clash at the Papara Park (Trabzon).
The lanky attacker has been firing on all cylinders since his loan move to Trabzonspor, registering three goals and an assist in four appearances in the Turkish Super Lig.
When he found the net against Pendikspor on September 30, the FC Ebedei product made history as the first Trabzonspor player to score a goal in his first three Super League matches after the 2007-2008 season.
With Napoli striker Victor Osimhen all but ruled out of next month's 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro will surely be keeping tabs on Onuachu ahead of his squad announcement in the next few weeks.
Onuachu has not played for the Super Eagles in their last five matches.
