Pundit urges Ndidi to shun move to Barcelona ahead of Leicester City's likely return to Premier League

Football writer for Football League World, Aaron Tebbutt has urged Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi to shun a move to European powerhouse Barcelona ahead of Leicester City's likely return to the English Premier League.

Table toppers Leicester City are well-placed to make an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season, with eleven points separating them from third-placed Leeds United twelve matches into the season.

Playing in a more advanced role in midfield these days, Ndidi has been one of the standout players for the Foxes with an impressive seven goal involvements in fifteen outings across all competitions.

However,  his future at the King Power Stadium remains up in the air as his contract expires at the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Top European clubs including Barcelona and Juventus are reportedly monitoring the situation of Ndidi who has racked up 252 appearances in a Leicester City shirt since his arrival at the club from Racing Genk in January 2017.

Tebbut is advising the Nigerian to re-consider signing with Leicester City even though a transfer to Barcelona may seem tempting.

"If Ndidi has a strong campaign, he will leave his club with no option but to offer him a new contract before he departs for free," he wrote on Football League World.

"If that is the case, the 26-year-old should certainly put pen to paper, as Leicester are looking increasingly likely to be returning to the promised land of the Premier League next season.

"Turning down a club with as much history as Barcelona would be an incredibly tough decision, but ultimately Ndidi should enjoy a promotion campaign to the Premier League and then continue life in the top flight at the King Power Stadium."

Ndidi and his Leicester City teammates face Sunderland at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday under the lights.
