Tottenham boss to make late call on whether Super Eagles-eligible defender can play against Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is sweating on the fitness of Super Eagles-eligible defender Destiny Udogie ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Friday at Selhurst Park under the lights.

In his first game after international duty with four-time world champions Italy, Udogie was brought off as a precaution ten minutes into the second half due to fatigue.

Postecoglou will decide on Friday whether the Italian-Nigerian defender is fit to play in the London derby.

Udogie has been one of the undroppable players in the Tottenham Hotspur squad in his first season at the Lilywhites, after a season-long loan spell at Udinese in 2022-2023.

With the exception of the League Cup game at Fulham where he was a non-playing substitute, he has started every single game played by Tottenham this season - nine in total.

Providing a squad update, Postecoglou said to Spurs official webpage: "With Destiny, we're going to have a look and assess as it's a short turnaround so we'll see how he goes today and we'll make a decision tomorrow."

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson confirmed at his pre-match press conference that 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise will not be available for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham returned to the top of the Premier League table with 23 points from nine games after a routine 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday.
