'It's difficult' - Joe Cole reckons Chelsea have a slim chance of pulling off a deal for Osimhen in January
Published: October 29, 2023Ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole Says his former side have a slim chance of signing Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.
Despite the capture of Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal in the summer, Stamford Bridge have continued to struggle in attack having registered 13 goals after ten Premier League games this season.
The Blues have once again been linked with Osimhen after they failed to land him in the summer due to his humongous valuation
Cole while doing a post-match analysis after Chelsea's defeat to Brentford with former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch said it will be difficult for his former club to sign the Ballon d'Or nominee in the winter transfer market.
"It’s difficult because there’s not many of them [natural strikers] around ,"Cole said on TNT Sport via TEAMtalk.
"Osimhen and Toney, the financial package you'd have to give to those players is very difficult
"I think Crouchy is right because everywhere else around that No.9 space, you're seeing a lot of positive signs and that'll be the final piece of the jigsaw.
"If they find who they want, they need to stamp down, say 'Here's £100m' and go get their man."
Napoli's director Mauro Meluso has ruled out the possibility of the star forward leaving the club in the winter transfer window which means the two-time European champions will have to wait till next summer if they are to acquire his services.
Raheem Sterling is top scorer for the London-based side in the Premier League with three goals and the club will have to hope that their players step up or bring in a proven striker as soon as possible to save their aspirations for the season
