Super Eagles striker Boniface supplies two assists to help Bayer Leverkusen set new club record
Published: November 04, 2023Bayer Leverkusen set a new club record on Saturday after a hard-fought 3-2 win over TSG Hoffenheim at the PreZero Arena .
According to OPTA, the Black and Reds won their 10th competitive match in a row, a new club record since their promotion to the Bundesliga in 1979.
Xabi Alonso's team won six games in the Bundesliga, three in the group stage of the Europa League and one in the DFB Pokal during their record-setting run.
Although Victor Boniface has not found the net in his last three matches in the German Bundesliga, the Nigeria international is now emerging as one of the top assist providers in the division.
The 22-year-old supplied two assists against TSG Hoffenheim, taking his tally to five, bettered only by RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons.
In the ninth minute, Boniface turned his marker and drove inside before feeding Florian Wirtz, who tapped beyond goalkeeper
Oliver Baumann to make it 1-0.
With the game tied at 2-2, the Bayer Leverkusen number 22 provided the game-winning assist in the 70th minute when he teed up Alejandro Grimaldo on the edge of the box.
Bayer Leverkusen have garnered 28 points from their first 10 Bundesliga games this season, the second-best start to a Bundesliga season ever and bettered only by Bayern Munich in the 2015-2016 campaign.
