Nottingham Forest plotting move for German Bundesliga star after Awoniyi's serious injury
Published: November 28, 2023
Nottingham Forest are reportedly plotting a move for German Bundesliga star Jonas Wind ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
Football Insider is reporting that Wolfsburg's Jonas Wind is among the strikers being considered by Nottingham Forest's recruitment team to bolster the squad in January 2024.
The two-time European champions have set their sights on signing a center forward after their top scorer in the Premier League Taiwo Awoniyi suffered a serious injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles in November.
The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner faces an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing groin surgery.
It is estimated that Awoniyi will be out of action for at least three months, meaning he will miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and will need time to get his rhythm back when he returns to the pitch at the business end of the season.
FC Copenhagen academy product Wind has established himself as a key player at Wolfsburg this season, scoring 10 goals and registering three assists in 14 all-competition appearances.
Only Bayern Munich's Hary Kane (18) and VfB Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy (15) have managed more goals than Wind in the Bundesliga this season.
Nottingham Forest have funds available to sign a striker in January following the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham for a reported fee of £47.5million on transfer deadline day in the summer.
