Nigerian player scores against Scottish champions Celtic for the second matchday running
Published: December 03, 2023A Nigerian player has scored against Scottish Premiership champions Celtic for the second matchday running.
Norwich City-reared winger Diallang Jaiyesimi was on the scoresheet as St. Johnstone were beaten 3-1 by the Hoops at McDiarmid Park on Sunday afternoon.
By finding the net, Jaiyesimi followed in the footsteps of Jonathan Obika who was on target for Motherwell in a 1-1 draw against Celtic in the penultimate round of matches in the division.
Diallang Jaiyesimi joined St. Johnstone on loan from League One club Charlton Athletic in the summer transfer market in search of regular game time after finding his chances limited at the Addicks.
The 25-year-old has registered his first goal in Scottish football in his third appearance for St. Johnstone.
Five minutes before the interval, Jaiyesimi took advantage of poor defending by Celtic to nudge the ball over the line following a goal mouth scramble.
Callum McGregor, with a ferocious effort from outside the box, restored parity for Celtic around the midway point of the second half, before Matt O'Riley capped a fine team move to give the visitors the lead for the first time in the game at minute 79.
James Forrest added gloss to the scoreline with Celtic's third goal in the third minute of stoppage time.
Celtic have opened up an 11-point gap over Rangers at the top of the table but have now played two games more than their city rivals.
