Three Nigerian-born players eligible for selection in Stage One of the MLS Re-Entry Draft
Published: December 13, 2023Major League Soccer on Wednesday announced the players eligible for Stage 1 of the Re-Entry Process on Thursday, Dec. 14. with three Nigerian-born players making the cut.
Ifunanyachi Achara and Mujeeb Murana who both turned out for Houston Dynamo in the 2023 Major League Soccer season and Minnesota United FC's Emmanuel Iwe were included in the Re-Entry Draft Eligible Player List.
Houston Dynamo elected not to exercise the club options on Achara and Murana, while Minnesota United also declined the option of Iwe.
During the Re-Entry Draft, MLS clubs can select players who are at least 22 years old, have a minimum of one service year, and who are not eligible for Free Agency.
An out-of-contract player who has received a Bona Fide Offer from his current club will not be eligible for the Re-Entry Draft.
Enugu-born striker Achara, 26, has totaled 30 appearances in Major League Soccer and scored three goals; Ibadan native Mujeeb Murana has yet to make his debut in the American top-flight but received three call ups in the recently concluded season.
Lagos-born forward Iwe, 23, appeared in three MLS matches in 2023 and was in action for fifty minutes.
The stage 1 draft of the re-entry process will take place on Thursday, December 14, 2023, and players eligible for stage 2 will be announced on the morning of December 21.
