Super Falcons-eligible midfielder agrees two-year deal with Arsenal amid interest from Chelsea
Published: January 17, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Super Falcons-eligible midfielder Omotara Junaid has agreed a fresh two-year deal with Women's Super League giants Arsenal.
Arsenal fended off interest from WSL rivals Chelsea and have persuaded the talented teenager to ink a new contract.
Chelsea had been pushing to bolster their academy ranks with the signing of Omotara before she agreed to extend her stay with Arsenal following a review meeting with the coaching staff.
Omotara's new deal with the Gunners sees her promoted to Arsenal Women FC Pro Game Academy U21 squad for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons.
Reacting to the new contract, Omotara's father said: "It's a huge breakthrough and a testament of the hard work Tara has put into her game since the beginning of the season.
"This will surely encourage her to work even harder."
Tara qualifies to represent three countries, namely Nigeria through her parents, United States where she was born, as well as England through her mother.
Junaid Senior has confirmed that Tara is interested in playing international football for Nigeria and would accept an invitation to play for the Flamingoes if handed a call-up by the Nigeria Football Federation.
"She would be interested in playing for Nigeria's national teams. She is familiar with the likes of Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, Toni Payne and Ashleigh Plumptre, and watched their solid performance at the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup," he concluded.
