London-born Black Stars forward Semenyo fires warning to Super Eagles with brace for Bournemouth
Published: March 14, 2024London-born Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has fired a warning to the Super Eagles ahead of an international friendly between Nigeria and Ghana in Marrakesh, Morocco on March 22
In what would go down as a Premier League classic, Semenyo was the star of the show as Bournemouth came back from three goals down to defeat Chiedozie Ogbene's Luton Town 4-3 at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bournemouth achieved a historic feat by becoming the third team in Premier League history to secure victory after trailing by three goals at halftime, after Manchester United (against Tottenham in September 2001) and Wolves (against Leicester in October 2003).
The visitors were in the driving seat at the break courtesy of goals from two players of Nigerian descent Ross Barkley and Ogbene, who are cap-tied to England and Republic of Ireland respectively, plus Tahith Chong's headed goal which opened the scoring.
In the second half, Dominic Solanke and Ilya Zabarnyi found the net to make it 3-2 before Semenyo's 19-minute brace secured a win for Bournemouth.
Semenyo could have been involved in a duel with Luton Town's Gabriel Osho, who has been named in the latest Nigeria squad, but the centre-back is recovering from a knee problem and was not included in the matchday squad.
A key member of Ghana's squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Semenyo has totaled 18 caps for the Black Stars since making his debut against Madagascar in June 2022.
The 24-year-old has faced Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Taiwo Awoniyi in the Premier League this season.
