Tottenham star Bissouma omitted as Mali announce 28-man squad ahead of Nigeria friendly
Published: March 15, 2024The Malian Football Federation on Friday afternoon unveiled a list of 28-players summoned for their March internationals against Mauritania (March 22) and Nigeria (March 26).
A notable exclusion is Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma, arguably the country's most popular player,
Bissouma is seemingly in good physical condition given that he went the distance in Tottenham's last Premier League game at Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old featured in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he started two of the five matches played by Mali before they exited the tournament in the quarterfinal stage.
Éric Sékou Chelle has picked three goalkeepers, nine defenders, eight midfielders and eight forwards for the training camp in March.
He has called up Young Africans goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, Real Sociedad defender Hamari Traore, Cadiz midfielder Diadie Samassekou and Salzburg forward Néné Dorgelès.
