Official: Deported Super Eagles midfielder joins new club in Denmark, player-assistant coach role in summer
Published: March 19, 2024With a statement on their official Facebook page, Danish club Odense Kammeraternes Sportsklub have announced with pride the signing of out-of-favour Nigeria international Izunna Uzochukwu.
Uzochukwu will be a player of OKS this spring and from the summer of 2024 he will be hired as an assistant coach in the squad, where he will still be available as a player.
Bold.dk has reported that the Super Eagles midfielder has joined a new club in the Funen region despite the fact that back in December 2023, he was deported by the Danish government.
His residence permit was taken from him on January 1, 2018, when he transferred to Chinese team MZ Hakka, although he has both a girlfriend and a daughter in Denmark.
Last month, Uzochukwu returned to Denmark and was spotted taking part in a friendly between two Funen clubs B 1909 and Næsby's U19 team.
At that time, he was trying to get the residence permit in place and has now found a new club to continue his career after leaving B1909.
Uzochukwu is a household name in Danish football with a total of 201 Danish Superliga games under his belt across spells with FC Midtjylland and Odense BK.
On his curriculum vitae, the FC Ebedei product also counts Aalesund, FC Honka and Amkar Perm as his previous employers.
The 33-year-old has been described as a skilled central midfielder with great energy and commitment.
