Camp update: Leicester and Brentford stars report for Super Eagles duty, Osayi-Samuel keeps Finidi waiting
Published: March 20, 2024Leicester City duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi alongside Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka have arrived at the Super Eagles camp ahead of the international friendlies against Ghana and Morocco.
Iheanacho last featured for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where he made two appearances as a substitute.
Just like the former Manchester youth player, Onyeka also featured at AFCON but played more games than the former, starting all the seven games played in the tournament.
Ndidi on the other hand hasn't played a game for the Super Eagles since the 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia in a friendly game last October, missing AFCON due to injury.
Besides the trio mentioned above, Omonia Nicosia glovesman Francis Uzoho and Boavista center back Chidozie Awaziem have also reported for duty.
Uzoho has been displaced by Stanley Nwabali as the first choice goalkeeper and will be hoping to get a chance to impress in the forthcoming games.
Awaziem have also found gametime to come, making just one appearance at AFCON and hasn't started a game since the 2-0 loss to Guinea in a friendly game in January.
Fenerbahçe right back Bright Osayi-Samuel has kept interim Nigeria boss George Finidi waiting as he's still being expected to link up with his international teammates in Morocco.
The Super Eagles have a training session scheduled for 4:30 pm today.
