On-loan Gunner Okonkwo keeps 14th clean sheet of the season in Wrexham's 2-0 win v Mansfield Town
Published: March 30, 2024Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo kept another clean sheet for his loan club Wrexham, in their 2-0 victory over Mansfield Town on matchday 40 of the EFL League Two played at the STōK Cae Ras on Friday.
Paul Mullin broke the deadlock for the home side in the 32nd minute with a perfect finish at the near post following a defensive mix-up from Mansfield.
The Red Dragons striker also grabbed the second goal, firing the ball powerfully past the goalkeeper from the penalty spot in the 68th minute.
Okonkwo lasted for the entire duration of the game and was involved in two noteworthy events in the clash.
In the 48th minute, James Gale came close to scoring, shooting at the near post but was denied brilliantly by the 22-year-old glovesman.
Two minutes after the hour mark, the Anglo-Nigerian shot-stopper thought he had lost his clean sheet when Davis Keillor-Dunn kicked the ball away from his possession before tapping it into the net but a foul was adjudged against the latter which ruled out the goal.
Okonkwo has now shut opponents on 12 occasions in the EFL League Two this term, eight of which have been at the STōK Cae Ras and four away from home.
He has played no small role in Wrexham's quest for promotion to the EFL League One, failing to start just three games since the start of the season.
