Super Falcons roster update: Nigeria call in replacement for injured defender Ashleigh Plumptre
Published: April 01, 2024The Nigeria Football Federation announced a roster update on Monday, four days before the Super Falcons take on African champions South Africa in a blockbuster 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifier in Abuja.
Super Falcons manager Randy Waldrum has made a roster move, bringing in Jumoke Alani as a replacement for Ashleigh Plumptre.
2023 Fifa Women's World Cup star Plumptre pulled out of the squad for the double header against Banyana Banyana due to injury.
Alani is not really an unknown quantity as she was a key member of the Falconets squad to the 2022 Fifa U20 Women's World Cup, where she played alongside Super Falcons midfield general Deborah Abiodun.
The 18-year-old was part of the Nigeria squad that was beaten by Japan in an international friendly in October 2022 - a squad that included the likes of Chiamaka Nnadozie, Christy Ucheibe, Rasheedat Ajibade, Ifeoma Onumonu, Uchenna Kanu and Michelle Alozie.
Waldrum has summoned three goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders and seven forwards for the Olympic qualifiers against South Africa,
Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has picked a 24-player squad comprising three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and six forwards.
The African champions touched down in Nigeria's capital, Abuja on Easter Sunday and held their first official training session on Monday.
