'You can't just have one individual' - Ex-Chelsea defender praised Madueke for excellent display
Published: April 07, 2024Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has praised Super Eagles-eligible winger Noni Madueke for his performance during the first half of the Blues' 2-2 draw with Sheffield United in a Premier League clash played at the Bramall Lane on Sunday evening.
Mauricio Pochettino handed the England youth international his 5th start of the season in the Premier League and repaid the faith by scoring a beautiful goal against the Blades.
In the 65th minute of the encounter, the 22-year-old cut inside from the right and bent s the ball perfectly past the Sheffield United goalkeeper to give the away side a 2-1 lead.
His goal wasn't enough to secure the maximum points for the Stamford Bridge outfit as Oliver McBurnie drew level for the Blades in the second minute of the stoppage time.
Speaking during his commentary duties on Chelsea's official website via The Chelsea Chronicle, Cundy singled out Madueke for praise, particularly after a poor first half from the Blues.
"It's been slow, it's laboured. I'm looking for someone on that pitch there to take a little bit of responsibility," he said.
"You can't just have one individual... you need there to be a collective spark, and that collective spark just hasn't happened. Noni Madueke's the only one I can think of that looks like something might happen."
The Anglo-Nigerian has now taken his goal tally to three in the Premier League this season and will be hoping to cement his place in the starting lineup as the season comes to an end.
