'So happy for Frank' - Brentford boss glad to see Onyeka end his 3,451-minute goal drought
Published: April 13, 2024Brentford ended a nine-game winless run in the Premier League by beating Sheffied United 2-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday evening.
It was double celebration for Frank Onyeka, with the Nigeria international ending his goal drought that lasted 3,451 minutes.
The FC Ebedei product has struggled for minutes since his return from international duty with the Super Eagles in March, logging only nine minutes spread across four matches.
Overall, he played in 74 matches comprising 66 in the Premier League and eight in the Carabao Cup before opening his goalscoring account for Brentford.
Against the Blades, the Super Eagles star came off the bench to replace Mathias Jensen as Brentford tried to wind down the clock in the closing stages but it proved to be an inspired substitution.
Onyeka netted the clinching goal in the third minute of stoppage time when he pounced on a flick from Super Eagles-eligible Germany international Kevin Schade to skillfully guide the ball into the net, despite the close attention of a Blades defender.
Speaking post-match, manager Thomas Frank was glad to see Onyeka score his first goal in Brentford colours.
"I'm so happy for Frank, he deserved that, so happy. He came on and was part of deciding it," he told Brentford's official website.
Onyeka has accumulated a total of nineteen career goals across 222 appearances for both club and country.
