League One-bound Wrexham keen on signing Arsenal goalkeeper Okonkwo on permanent deal

According to The Athletic, Wrexham are ready to sign Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal this summer.

Okonkwo has helped the Red Dragons secure promotion to the League One, conceding 29 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets in the League Two this season.

Due to his heroics in goal for Phil Parkinson's side, he was named in the Team of the Season alongside fellow teammate Elliot Lee.

With his loan spell coming to an end at the end of the campaign, Wrexham are ready to snap him up on a permanent deal but it remains to be seen whether they have the financial wherewithal to do so.

Okonkwo's wages might be a stumbling block for Wrexham to sign the shot-stopper permanently as they have been covering less than half of his wages at the moment, with Arsenal taking responsibility for the rest.

The 22-year-old 'scontract at the Emirates ends at the end of the current campaign and with Mikel Arteta's goalkeeper hierarchy well established, he is likely to be moved om.

After back-to-back successful loan spells with the Red Dragons and Sturm Graz respectively, the Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper will not be short of suitors within and outside England.
