Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen named in Serie A Team of the Week
Published: April 30, 2024Super Eagles star striker Victor Osimhen has been named in Whoscored.com's Serie A gameweek 34 team of the week having starred in Napoli's 2-2 draw with Roma at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.
The 25-year-old scored from the penalty spot in the 84th minute but that wasn't enough to secure the maximum points as Tammy Abraham restored parity four minutes later.
Besides his goal, the Nigeria international was a thorn in the flesh of the Yellow and Reds, attempting more shots than the away side and could have gotten a second goal but was denied by Mile Svilar.
Osimhen has been in stellar form since his return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring seven goals in his last nine appearances in the Serie A.
Alongside Albert Guðmundsson, the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner is the joint third-top scorer in the Italian fight with 14 goals but he is unlikely to equal his tally from last season, with four games left to be played in the season.
He has 17 goal involvements in the League this season which is superior to any other player in the Napoli squad.
Fiorentina have the most representatives in the team of the week with three players, while AC Milan, Frosinone, Genoa and Napoli have two players apiece.
Below is the full team
Goalkeeper: Marco Sportiello (AC Milan)
Defenders: Johan Vásquez (Genoa), Malick Thiaw (AC Milan), Simone Romagnoli (Frosinone)
Midfielders: Nadir Zortea (Frosinone), Morten Frendrup (Genoa), Antonín Barák ( Fiorentina), Riccardo Sottil (Fiorentina)
