Tottenham-reared goalkeeper Oluwayemi extends contract with Australian club Wellington Phoenix

Australian club Wellington Phoenix FC have secured the services of Tottenham Hotspur-reared goalkeeper Josh Oluwayemi for an additional season, extending his contract until the end of the 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign, as announced on the club's official website.
Born in the English capital London, Oluwayemi is not really an unknown quantity in these parts as he was invited to the Super Eagles for a friendly against Mexico in July 2021 as the back-up goalkeeper to Stanley Nwabali.
Oluwayemi was on the books of Tottenham Hotspur for eleven years before transferring to Football League club Portsmouth in 2022.
The 23-year-old, joined the Phoenix on a one-year deal in September and has since become an integral part of the team, impressing in his first two A-League appearances.
His impressive performances have earned him the number one jersey, helping Wellington Phoenix maintain an unbeaten start to the season.
Phoenix head coach Giancarlo Italiano hailed the contract extension as a "good piece of business" for the club, highlighting Oluwayemi's significant impact since his arrival.
Oluwayemi expressed his delight with the contract extension, citing his enjoyable experience with the Phoenix as a welcome change from his previous stints in England and Finland.
Despite being content with his performances, Oluwayemi acknowledged room for improvement.
Oluwayemi's international career is also noteworthy, having represented England at youth level and receiving a call-up to Nigeria's national team in 2021 as a 20-year-old.
