Lookman insists he's not interested in individual awards after 14th placed finish in Ballon d'Or
Published: November 03, 2024
Following his fourteenth place finish in the Ballon d'Or rankings, Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has insisted that he is not focused on individual awards.
Lookman continued his rich vein of form as Atalanta registered an impressive 3-0 road win against Napoli at the
Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday.
Ten minutes into the contest, the Nigeria international volleyed the ball home from close range after he was not picked up by the Napoli defence
Lookman stunned the Serie A table toppers again just past the half hour mark when he unleased an unstoppable shot from outside the box.
The Charlton Athletic academy product threatened to score a third goal but hit the side-netting with his finish in the 75th minute, and it was his last action of the game as he was replaced by Lazar Samardžić a minute later.
In the Ballon d'Or rankings, Lookman finished above notable Premier League players like Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ruben Dias (Manchester City), William Saliba (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea) and Declan Rice (Arsenal).
Speaking after the win against Napoli, the Super Eagles star made it clear he's not focused on personal glory but contributing to the success of Atalanta.
Speaking to the match broadcaster DAZN, via Alfredo Pedulla, Lookman emphasized: "Great performance by the team and De Ketelaere, it wasn’t easy but we are proud of this result. We played very well against the top team
On missing out on the Ballon d’Or, he said: "I’m not interested in individual awards, I have to keep working to help the team achieve results ".
Lookman is the bookies favorite to replace Victor Osimhen as the African Footballer of the Year.
