Bundesliga club Werder Bremen rekindle pursuit of Ajax Amsterdam striker Chuba Akpom
Published: December 06, 2024
According to Sport.de, Werder Bremen are considering a move for Ajax Amsterdam's Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom.
This is not the first time the club have been linked with the Arsenal allum as allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively revealed in March 2023 that they were interested in signing him when he was at Middlesbrough.
Despite boasting five attackers in the squad presently; Marvin Ducksch, Justin Njinmah, Marco GrĂ¼ll, Keke Topp and Oliver Burke, the Bundesliga side still want to add a striker.
Topp is the only natural central forward option in their squad but the young German striker is injured and will not return to action till February.
Werder Bremen now want to sign a new striker and are targeting Akpom but can only sign him on a loan deal because he is contracted to Ajax till 2028, which will make a permanent deal expensive.
The 29-year-old is the third-choice striker at Ajax and has started just six games in the Eredivisie and one in the UEFA Europa League this term.
He was linked with an exit from the Dutch giants last summer but none of the interested clubs could make a deal happen.
With his limited game time, an exit could be on the cards for the former Middlesbrough forward, but it remains to be seen whether he will fancy a move to Werder Bremen.
