'Bigger transfer than Osimhen' - Expert reacts to rumours linking Liverpool captain to Galatasaray
Published: December 30, 2024
Turkish football expert, Yusuf Kenan Çalık has reacted to the rumours linking Virgil van Dijk to Galatasaray, suggesting that the Dutchman's potential move would be a bigger signing than that of Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen has been a revelation since moving to Galatasaray in the summer.
The Nigerian forward has scored twelve goals and provided five assists in fifteen matches across all competitions to become a standout performer for the club.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, his performance has quickly turned him into a fan favourite across the city, but Çalık suggested that van Dijk's potential move in the summer could make a bigger impact in Istanbul.
However, Virgil van Dijk has been linked with a move to Galatasaray in the summer due to his contract situation at Liverpool.
Despite being a top performer for Liverpool, his contract expires in the summer, and he's free to negotiate with a foreign club in January.
In quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi, Çalık described the Dutch midfielder as one of the top defenders in football.
However, he suggested that the potential move would be bigger than Osimhen's transfer in September 2024.
“We are talking about one of the top 5 defenders in the world. I wouldn't even compare him to Davinson Sanchez in terms of his career. He could be the best defender to come to Turkey," he said.
"It will be a bigger transfer than Osimhen. Van Dijk is still in great form. I think Van Dijk would be a bigger signing than Osimhen."
