Son of ex-Lazio coach highlights three qualities Dele-Bashiru brings to Eagles midfield
Published: December 30, 2024
Massimo Maestrelli, son of legendary Lazio coach Tommaso Maestrelli, has praised the performance of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru at Lazio, outlining three key attributes the Nigerian midfielder brings to the Serie A club’s midfield.
Dele-Bashiru, who joined The Eagles from Turkish club Hatayspor in the summer, has slowly found his footing in Serie A after initially struggling to adapt to the demands of Italian football.
The 23-year-old showcased his growing influence during Lazio’s 1-1 draw against Atalanta on Saturday night.
Dele-Bashiru scored the opening goal, marking his second of the season in nine league appearances.
Additionally, he has contributed two goals and two assists in four UEFA Europa League outings, displaying his ability to perform on multiple fronts.
With several key players absent from the squad, Dele-Bashiru would see the current period as a significant opportunity to further impress Lazio's coach, Marco Baroni, ahead of the highly anticipated Rome Derby.
Speaking before the derby, Maestrelli expressed cautious optimism regarding Lazio's chances, acknowledging Roma's strong defensive approach. However, he also emphasized the valuable qualities Dele-Bashiru could bring to the match.
"I think Roma plays covered and aggressive, we struggle with those who cover themselves. I really like Dele Bashiru because he provides quality, energy and strength in midfield," Maestrelli told radiosei.it.
As Lazio prepares for the derby, Dele-Bashiru's growing impact could play a pivotal role in the team's performance, especially with the absence of several key players and with Boulaye Dia not in the best of form.
