Hoffenheim and Lyon reach club-to-club agreement for the transfer of Gift Orban
Published: January 01, 2025
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, TSG Hoffenheim and Olympique Lyonnais have reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban.
The German Bundesliga side are now awaiting formal steps from the 22-year-old striker to complete the transfer.
Hoffenheim's poor form in the Bundesliga this season has left them in 15th position, dangerously close to the relegation zone.
One of the key factors behind their poor performance is their lack of efficiency in the final third, having managed to score just 20 goals in 15 league matches.
The team’s top scorer, Andrej Kramarić, has netted only six league goals this season, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen their attacking options.
Deemed surplus to requirements at Lyon, Hoffenheim are looking to seize the opportunity to bring Orban on board.
The Nigerian forward has endured a difficult spell with the French club, having been frozen out of the squad due to disciplinary issues.
Lyon, facing significant financial difficulties, are under pressure to offload players to stabilize their situation and maintain their Ligue 1 status, which further supports their willingness to sell Orban.
This season, Orban has made five appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals.
