'Some say Osimhen is ahead of him' - Ex-Real Madrid star claims Lautaro Martinez is better than Napoli loanee
Published: January 04, 2025
Former Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano considers Lautaro Martínez, a 2022 World Cup winner and two-time South American champion, to be a better player than Victor Osimhen.
While Lautaro Martínez has won two Serie A titles with Inter Milan, Osimhen played a key role as Napoli won their first
Scudetto in thirty-three years, scoring 26 goals in 32 games during the 2022-2023 season.
Martínez has been playing for Inter Milan since 2018 following his transfer from Argentine outfit Racing Club, registering 183 goal involvements in 305 all-competition appearances.
However, he has struggled to deliver on the pitch in the current season, having netted just seven goals in twenty-three matches.
Osimhen has taken Turkish football by storm since his arrival from Galatasaray, notching 12 goals in fifteen games, leading to rumours linking him with a permanent departure from Napoli in the upcoming transfer windows.
Antonio Cassano, who wore the colours of Inter Milan during his playing days, has suggested that Lautaro Martínez is among the top five strikers in the world at the moment.
In an episode of Bobo TV, via MSN, Antonio Cassano stated: "Some say that Osimhen is ahead of him, never. Lautaro Martinez today is one of the five best strikers in the world, he makes the difference.
"He is very strong, he can score goals, he can make the team play, phenomenal".
The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Chelsea are interested on Osimhen, 26, but a deal is unlikely to happen in the January transfer window, as the former African Footballer of the Year has reiterated that he wants to see out his contract with Galatasaray which expires in June 2025.
