Done deal: Valencia sign Real Sociedad striker Sadiq on loan with an option to buy
Published: January 04, 2025
Through a statement on their official website, Valencia CF has made its first signing under new manager Carlos Corberan, bringing in Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq on loan from Real Sociedad until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old's move to Valencia was finalized after the club agreed to a loan deal with Real Sociedad, which includes a purchase option of less than €10 million this summer.
Valencia will also pay a €1 million loan fee as part of the agreement, according to Spanish sports daily Marca.
Sadiq's arrival at Valencia is expected to boost the team's attacking options, which have been struggling this season.
Los Murciélagos have scored just 17 goals in 18 league games, and Corberan will be hoping Sadiq can help turn things around.
Sadiq's career at Real Sociedad has been hampered by injury, which limited his playing time and effectiveness.
He scored just three goals last season and has found himself out of favor with manager Imanol Alguacil.
As a result, Sadiq's agent offered his services to several clubs, including Sevilla, Getafe, and Valencia.
In the end, Valencia proved to be the most attractive option, and Sadiq will now have the opportunity to revive his career at the Mestalla Stadium.
Valencia's new manager, Carlos Corberan, will be hoping Sadiq can make an immediate impact and help the team climb the league table.
Sadiq's loan deal is a low-risk, high-reward move for Valencia, which gives the club the opportunity to assess the player's quality and suitability without making a long-term commitment.
If Sadiq performs well, Valencia can exercise the purchase option and make the deal permanent.
The 2016 Olympics bronze medalist tallied four goals and two assists in fifty appearances overall for Real Sociedad, in an underwhelming 28-month stint.
