Nigerian utility player phenomenal on full debut for Leeds United in 1-0 win against Harrogate

Lausanne-born Nigerian utility player Isaac Schmidt made his full debut for Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United in a 1-0 victory over Harrogate Town in an FA Cup third round tie at Elland Road on Saturday, January 11.
The former Switzerland U20 international joined Leeds United from FC St. Gallen 1879 in the summer transfer window, signing a four-year deal until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
Despite his versatility, Schmidt has found game time scarce, limiting his appearances to eight in all competitions, including his starting debut against Harrogate Town.
While his main role is as a fullback, he is capable of operating as a winger on either flank, a center forward and across the midfield.
The 25-year-old has struggled to break into the first team due to the presence of established players and tactical preferences of manager Daniel Farke.
Schmidt was phenomenal in defence in the win against the League Two side, sparking further questions about his restricted playing time in the Championship.
Before today's Yorkshire derby, he had played a mere 25 minutes in total across seven games in the second tier.
Leeds United advanced to the next round of the FA Cup thanks to Largie Ramazani's goal just before the hour mark.
Ahead of upcoming games in the Championship, Schmidt's chances of another start at right-back appear difficult, given Jayden Bogle has cemented his place in the team.
