Sebastien Haller's replacement: CD Leganes make enquiries about signing Rangers striker Dessers
Published: January 15, 2025
Spanish La Liga outfit CD Leganes have expressed interest in acquiring the services of Rangers' Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers.
According to Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto, Leganes have initiated contacts to explore the possibility of signing Dessers.
Leganes are in the market for a striker in the January transfer window as a replacement for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations winner Sebastien Haller, who terminated his loan deal at Los Pepineros before rejoining former club Utrecht.
Dessers has found himself relegated to the bench in recent matches, with manager Philippe Clement opting for alternative attacking options.
Recent soccer results, including Rangers' 3-0 rout of bitter rivals Celtic highlight the team's strong form despite Dessers' limited involvement.
This development has sparked speculation about Dessers' future at Rangers, with several clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.
Dessers' lack of playing time can be attributed to the impressive form of teammate Hamza Igamane, who has scored seven goals and provided one assist in his last eight league appearances.
In contrast, Dessers has failed to register a goal or assist during the same period.
Rangers are believed to be open to negotiating a transfer deal for Dessers, who has made 31 appearances for the club this season, scoring 12 goals.
Italian clubs Cagliari and Empoli have also been linked with the Nigerian international, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future.
With Leganes joining the fray, Dessers' options for a potential move are increasing.
The striker's current contract with Rangers runs until 2027, but it remains to be seen whether he will remain at the club beyond the current transfer window.
