'We missed many chances' - 14-goal striker Osimhen reacts after Galatasaray's 1-1 draw v Hatayspor
Published: January 18, 2025
After Galatasaray's 1-1 draw against Atakaş Hatayspor in the Trendyol Süper Lig, Victor Osimhen spoke to the broadcaster about the match and his current form.
Osimhen's penalty in the 56th minute marked his 14th goal of the season in all competitions, leveling the score after Cemali Sertel's opener in the first half.
The Nigerian striker reflected on the team's performance and his confidence in the squad's potential.
"The first half lacked a bit of intensity. We allowed the opponent to play a little, but after the coach’s talk, we started the second half really well," Osimhen was quoted as saying by Galatasaray's official website.
"We increased the intensity and focused more on our game. These kinds of matches are difficult. We need to maintain our focus and take every opportunity that comes our way.
"We missed many chances, but we will learn from our mistakes and aim to do better."
When asked about his adaptation to the team, Osimhen expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from his teammates.
"When I arrived at the team, my teammates welcomed me really well. They helped me in every way. The coach was always there for me, showing his trust.
"My teammates also showed this trust, which made adapting easier. Right now, I am focused on the team.
"We have certain goals for the season, and we are moving forward step by step toward them. We will keep fighting.
"I believe we will achieve great things," he added.
Osimhen also discussed the team's overall energy, insisting that fatigue is not an issue.
"I don’t think there’s fatigue in the team. This is our job. It's not just about the 11 on the field; the players on the bench are always ready. Having two matches in a week, both during the week and on the weekend, I think is normal.
"I am always ready, and I want to play for my team every time. We will look at this match, see our mistakes, and try to learn from them to do better next time."
As Osimhen and Galatasaray continue their quest for success, the striker remains positive and dedicated to his team’s ambitions for the season.
