'Missed many clear goals' - Ex-Galatasaray forward claims Osimhen is behind Icardi in finishing
Published: January 18, 2025
Former Galatasaray forward Ümit Karan has criticized Victor Osimhen's finishing, claiming that the Nigeria international is behind Mauro Icardi when it comes to finishing.
Karan made the comparison on the SkySpor YouTube channel reported via habersarikirmizi following Osimhen's performance in Galatasaray's shocking 1-1 draw against Hatayspor on Friday night.
Despite scoring his fourteenth campaign goal across all competitions, the Nigerian International struggled to replicate his usual form at the Mersin Stadium.
Osimhen missed several clear-cut chances and struggled to beat the defensive line of the opponent, a performance that has drawn criticism from Karan.
The former African Footballer of the Year registered a game-high six shots with only two of them on target.
Despite praising his technical ability, the 48-year-old Karan frowned at Osimhen's finishing and inability to beat Hatayspor's offside trap during the game.
"Victor Osimhen is an athletic and technical footballer, but he showed that he is behind Icardi in terms of finishing, he missed many clear goals. He could not get out of the offside trap," he said.
With eleven league goals, the Nigerian forward is behind Krzysztof Piątek and Simon Banza in the scorer's chart.
Piątek has netted thirteen goals, while Banza has scored twelve league goals.
Osimhen, however, who has been a standout performer for Galatasaray since joining on loan from Napoli, would hope to learn from Karan's criticism and further develop his game in Turkey.
