Nottingham Forest's sister club Olympiakos interested in Super Eagles left-back Onyemaechi
Published: January 20, 2025
Nottingham Forest's sister club, Olympiakos have expressed interest in signing Nigerian left-back Bruno Onyemaechi during the winter transfer window, according to Gazzetta Greece.
Both Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos are considered sister clubs as they are owned by the same Greek billionaire, Evangelos Marinakis.
Onyemaechi, who has been a bright spark for Boavista despite their challenging season, has drawn attention with his solid performances.
The 25-year-old has scored two goals in 17 Liga Portugal appearances and was recently named Boavista's Player of the Month for December.
Boavista, however, are enduring a dismal campaign, sitting at the bottom of the Liga Portugal table with just 12 points from 17 matches.
This precarious position has sparked concerns over Onyemaechi's future at the club, as the defender reportedly hopes to continue playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.
The Nigerian international has been on the radar of several clubs, including Turkey’s Trabzonspor, who previously made an offer of €2.5 million.
However, the payment structure proposed by the Turkish side failed to meet Boavista's expectations, paving the way for Olympiakos, who are eager to secure Onyemaechi's services.
Despite Olympiakos’ interest, a potential transfer could face significant hurdles.
Boavista are currently restricted from signing new players due to financial issues, making it challenging for the club to part with a key player like Onyemaechi.
Iit remains to be seen whether Olympiakos can negotiate a deal that satisfies Boavista or if Onyemaechi will remain with the Portuguese side to help them battle relegation.
