New asking price for Dessers: Rangers now want N6.2b for Super Eagles attacker
Published: February 01, 2025
Scottish Premiership side Rangers have slapped a new price tag on Cyriel Dessers, valued at around £3.35 million (approximately ₦6.2 billion), amid growing interest from Italian Serie A side Cagliari.
The Super Eagles attacker has been in impressive form, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his last five appearances across all competitions.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport via Ibrox News, Cagliari have been actively pursuing Dessers' signature, but the new price tag has put a potential transfer in uncertainty.
The Italian club is reportedly unwilling to meet Rangers' revised valuation, which has cast doubt over the likelihood of a deal being struck.
With Dessers' recent form posing a dilemma, Rangers are eager to recoup a large share of the £4.5 million they invested in his signing from Cremonese in 2023.
However, by increasing the asking price, Rangers risk pricing Cagliari out of the market.
With Dessers' current form unlikely to be sustained indefinitely, the club must weigh the benefits of cashing in on the striker now against the risk of selling him for a lower fee at the end of the season.
Clement's recent team selections suggest that he may not be averse to keeping Dessers at Ibrox until the end of the season.
He has started Rangers' last two games, indicating that he remains an important part of Clement's plans.
As the transfer window enters its final stages, Rangers' valuation of Dessers will be closely watched.
While Cagliari's interest has been well-documented, it remains to be seen whether other clubs will be willing to meet the Scottish Premiership side's revised asking price.
