Former England youth international who has switched allegiance to Nigeria, Chuba Akpom, is undergoing a medical with French club Lille as he edges closer to a transfer from Ajax Amsterdam.
The news of Akpom's imminent transfer to Lille has been confirmed by transfer market specialist David Ornstein, who reported on Friday afternoon that Lille has reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Chuba Akpom on loan with a buy option.
He added that Lille saw off competition from Premier League and Championship clubs, and elsewhere in Europe, to agree a deal with the former Arsenal player.
The 29-year-old striker scored 8 goals and provided 1 assist in 32 appearances this season, but is angling for a move away from Ajax due to limited playing opportunities.
Akpom, who was once a youth prospect for the England national team, will now bring his experience and attacking ability to Lille, who have been actively searching for reinforcements up front.
This transfer comes at a time when Lille are preparing to part ways with Mohamed Bayo, with the Ivorian striker expected to join Belgian side Antwerp on loan.
Akpom’s arrival will provide crucial depth and experience to Lille’s forward line as they aim to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
As the transfer window nears its close, Lille fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the move, which could see the former England player-turned-Super Eagles hopeful don the club's colors soon.
