Rangers make decision on Super Eagles striker ahead of the close of winter transfer market
Published: February 03, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers will reportedly remain at Scottish Premiership club Rangers for the remainder of the season, following a decision from the club's board.
The Nigerian striker's future had been the subject of intense speculation throughout the winter transfer window, with Italian club Cagliari reportedly interested in securing his services.
However, according to the Scottish Daily Mail via Ibrox News, the Rangers board has made assurances to manager Philippe Clement that there will be no more outgoings during the current transfer window.
This decision may have put to bed any rumors linking the former Feyenoord man with a move away from the Scottish giants before the close of the winter transfer market, as he has been an important player for the Gers.
The 30-year-old striker had expressed his frustration over his lack of playing time under Clement, falling behind Hamza Igamane and Danilo in the pecking order.
Amid widespread criticism from the club's supporters, Dessers hinted that he would be open to a move away from Ibrox if it meant regular playing time.
Despite his comments, Dessers has experienced a mini-revival in recent weeks, contributing six goals and an assist in his last six matches for Rangers.
His impressive form might have been a significant factor in the club's decision to keep him on board.
Dessers' statistics this season make for impressive reading, having netted 18 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, making him a vital component of Clement's squad.
With the Nigerian striker looking set to stay at Ibrox, manager Philippe Clement will be hoping he can continue his rich vein of form and help the team achieve their goals for the season.
