PL International Cup: Emmanuel Dennis makes his competitive debut for Blackburn Rovers tonight
Published: February 05, 2025
Nottingham Forest loanee Emmanuel Dennis will make his first appearance for Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night when they take on Athletic Bilbao in a rearranged Premier League International Cup match at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium.
Blackburn Rovers concluded their transfer deadline day business on Monday night with the loan signing of Dennis from Nottingham Forest.
In search of playing opportunities, the Nigeria international has transferred to the Championship club but he is surely lacking match fitness.
In the first half of the season, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo sidelined Dennis, leaving him unregistered for the Premier League and unselected for any Cup matches.
He has not played in an official game for club and country since playing the first half of Watford's 1-0 win over Sunderland in a Championship clash on April 27, 2024.
Unless he gets injured during the pre-match warm-up, Dennis will make his return to competitive action against the Spanish opponents as he has been named in the starting lineup.
Fellow deadline day signings Yuri Ribeiro from Sporting Braga and Cauley Woodrow from Luton Town have also been included in Blackburn Rovers U21s matchday squad.
Playing against Athletic Bilbao is a crucial step for Dennis, who is aiming to make his competitive debut for Blackburn Rovers' first team this month.
