Official: Talented centre-back eligible for Nigeria, England, Spain signs new Luton Town deal
Published: February 19, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Championship club Luton Town have announced that promising tri-national central defender Christian Chigozie has signed a new deal.
Chigozie has put pen to his paper on his first professional contract with Luton Town.
Born in Spain seventeen years ago, Chigozie is eligible to represent the national teams of Spain, Nigeria through his parents, as well as England, where he has lived since the age of six.
Last season, the talented teenager etched his name into the history books as the youngest Hatter to be on the bench for a Premier League game, while still studying for his GCSEs at Chiltern Academy.
He was an unused substitute in back-to-back away games against Arsenal and Manchester City.
After gaining senior experience in pre-season friendlies, Chigozie has made the first team bench three times so far this season but has yet to make his senior debut.
He joined as an U7 in the Luton Town Community Trust's Pre-Academy programme, before signing for the main academy two years later.
An imposing, quick, and mobile centre-back, Chigozie is equally adept at operating in a back four or a back three.
His aerial dominance combined with his fearless approach allows him to make vital blocks and defend the goal effectively.
