'Fast man' - Former Turkish defender reveals who is better between Osimhen and Icardi
Published: February 19, 2025
Former Turkish defender Erman Toroğlu has weighed in on the debate between Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen and Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, naming the latter as the superior player.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, has been in impressive form, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Icardi, who made a high-profile move to Paris Saint-Germain, boasts an impressive record of 61 goals and 22 assists in 87 matches for the French club.
Speaking on the Vole YouTube channel via habersarikirmizi, Toroğlu praised Osimhen’s impact but insisted that Icardi remains the more complete striker.
"Victor Osimhen won the Çaykur Rizespor match on his own. You can hit those balls in Turkey but they won't let you do that much in Europe. I hope he does these things in Europe."
However, he was quick to highlight Icardi’s qualities, praising his pace and finishing attributes.
"Osimhen is a quick, fast man but he is not as good as Mauro Icardi. Icardi is a different fabric. Icardi is comfortable, a finisher, and always gets himself lost."
With Icardi absent, Galatasaray will be relying on Osimhen to lead the attack as they attempt to overturn a 4-1 first-leg deficit against AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
