MAUREEN MMADU Leads Team To Norway Elite League; Set To Extend Contract
Published: October 20, 2012
Falcons legend Maureen Mmadu, these days playing in the second - tier of Norwegian Football for Avaldsnes IL, has expressed delight in helping her team gain promotion to the Toppserien.
With two matches to play in the championship, Maureen, coach/player of the Western Norway team, and her girls are guaranteed winning the title. Thanks to the team's unassailable lead after the 3 - 0 win over Sarpsborg 08 a fortnight ago.
''I have to thank God for everything. I am so happy to be part of history, helping the team to the top division. This team has never played in the Premier League. I am also the captain of the team, and this would be the first time to lift a cup in Europe. I am so happy, can't wait to lift the cup on Sunday,'' says Mmadu to allnigeriasoccer.com.
The experienced midfielder runs out of contract at the end of the 2012 season. Already, the management of Avaldsnes IL has approached her to prolong her stay.
''They have approached me to sign a new contract. I love this club, they have treated me nicely; best team I've played for since I arrived Europe. Mr Arne Utvik, our main sponsor, has done a great job in the team and also put a lot of money in the team.
''Normally, I don't sign for two years any club I play for. I sign for a year to see how everything goes, then if I am okay, I'll sign. It is certain that I will renew my contract with AIL at the end of the season,'' Mmadu said.
Maureen Mmadu, playing as a defensive midfielder, has scored 12 goals this campaign.
