American defender Oguchi Chijioke Onyewu despite being on the score-sheet against Eibar in the Spanish Cup on Tuesday has not totally convinced Malaga gaffer Manuel Pellegrini.
Spanish daily Malaga Hoy says the Chilean coach has contacted the Sporting Director of Malaga on the need to sign a new central defender in the January transfer window.
Onyewu, who is primarily a player of Sporting Lisbon, is on loan at Malaga until the end of the 2012 - 2013 season.
The ex Standard Liege center back has managed only one game in La Liga so far.
