EXCLUSIVE: Woking Midfielder Ohimai Longe Pledges International Future To Nigeria
Published: May 14, 2013
Woking defensive midfielder Ohimai Longe has pledged his international future to Nigeria despite being eligible to play for the England selection.
Ahead of the start of the Fifa Under 20 World Cup, the 19 - year - old wants to be given an opportunity to represent the Flying Eagles and claims to be in contact with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation.
''I have approached a couple of people from the Nigeria Federation and former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju. I am hoping to get called up to the Nigeria Under 20 squad.
''My parents are Nigerians and I spent a few years there growing up. I think the way I learnt to play football in England will add something to the Nigeria squad.
''I am technically gifted which from what I have seen is rare from African players. Have a very good passing ability and good work rate. I will give my all to my country if I am invited,'' Longe told allnigeriasoccer.com in a telephone conversation.
Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles arrived Germany this morning to begin proper preparations for the Fifa Under 20's.
The squad will have their first training session on Tuesday evening. The players plus officials are lodging at the Bavarian town of Elfershausen.
