Sunderland appear to be in pole position to secure the signature of the Inter Milan midfielder Joel Obi., Italy's authoritative sports daily <i>Corriere dello Sport </i>has hinted.<br /><br />Obi's appearances for <i>The </i><span style=""><i>Nerazzurri </i>has been few this season due to his physical complaints. This has not stopped clubs from making enquiries on his availability in the January transfer window.<br /><br />The hypothesis is that Joel Obi, who has not been named in Nigeria's provisional African Cup of Nations squad, will join Sunderland on loan to gain experience.<br /><br />The Nigeria international has an Italian Passport, and will escape the strict work permit rules in the United Kingdom.
