Fenerbahce are making significant progress in their pursuit of Ademola Lookman, with the Turkish giants intensifying efforts to secure the signature of the former African Footballer of the Year before the close of the January transfer window.
According to the latest update from transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, the Yellow Canaries and the Black and Blues have reached a verbal agreement on a €40 million (approximately N66 billion in Nigerian currency) transfer fee for Lookman.
The Nigeria international is reportedly keen on a move to Fenerbahce, although no written agreement has been finalised at this stage.
Fenerbahce and Atalanta are yet to finalise the payment structure, with negotiations over the terms still ongoing.
As discussions between the clubs progressed, Atlético Madrid entered the race late on, making enquiries in recent hours regarding the financial conditions of a potential deal.
Atlético Madrid were heavily linked with Lookman during the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.
Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022, the former Everton forward has made 137 appearances for the club, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists across all competitions.
Lookman, who impressed at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, is under contract with Atalanta until June 30, 2027.
