Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has confirmed the club are actively working to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, a move that would push Taiwo Awoniyi further down the pecking order.
The Nigeria international has found first-team opportunities limited this season, making just one Premier League start and was omitted from Nottingham Forest's Europa League squad.
Forest’s lack of a recognised centre-forward proved costly as they slipped to a 1–0 defeat away to Braga in the Europa League on Thursday, a result that has all but consigned them to the playoffs next month.
Strikers Igor Jesus and Chris Wood remain sidelined through injury, while Arnaud Kalimuendo has been loaned out to Eintracht Frankfurt, further depleting Dyche's attacking options.
Nottingham Forest have been strongly linked with a potential move for Napoli forward Lorenzo Lucca.
Speaking after the defeat in Portugal, Dyche admitted that strengthening his attacking options is now a priority.
He told TNT Sports: "We’re certainly working on it. The club know, they’re aware. They can see the situation. So yeah, we’re certainly working on it. We’ll see."
Awoniyi was linked with a departure from Nottingham Forest during the summer transfer window, but a move did not materialise.
