Bayern's Record Signing To Cost 30 Times What Chelsea Paid For Nigeria's Most Expensive LB

German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have announced that France World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez will join the club from Atletico Madrid on July 1, 2019.

Bayern Munich will pay 80 millions (approximately £68 million) to sign Hernandez on a five-year deal from Atletico Madrid, which is the most expensive fee for a left-back and the most expensive signing by a German club.

The Nigerian transfer record for a left-back which has stood for 22 years is held by ex-Super Eagles star Celestine Babayaro, who was acquired by Chelsea from Anderlecht in 1997 for a transfer fee of £2.25 million.

Hernandez costs approximately thirty times the amount Chelsea paid to bring Babayaro to Stamford Bridge.

In terms of transfer expenditures, only three Nigerian left backs have cost more than one million pounds : Babayaro, Elderson Echiejile and Ifeanyi Emeghara.

Monaco spent £1.35 million to sign Echiejile from Sporting de Braga in January 2014, while Emeghara arrived Steaua Bucharest from  Politehnica Timisoara· for a transfer fee of  £1.08 million.

Celestine Babayaro won the Emirates FA Cup, UEFA Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time with Chelsea.
