Super Eagles and Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze is mourning the death of his mother, Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze, following a brief illness, the family has confirmed.
The news was shared on social media by his brother, Chukwueze David, who posted heartfelt tributes on Instagram, expressing sorrow and honouring their late mother’s memory.
The announcement comes at a sensitive time for Nigerian football, as the Super Eagles have recently faced multiple personal losses.
Just two days earlier, Wilfred Ndidi, the Super Eagles midfielder and captain, lost his father in a road accident in Delta State.
Ndidi’s loss drew condolences from across the sports community, including a statement from Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu.
Chukwueze is currently on loan at Fulham from AC Milan, where he has contributed significantly in the Premier League.
His performances have been praised by both the club and fans, with the winger scoring three goals and providing four assists so far this season.
His work rate and attacking threat have been key in helping Fulham compete in a challenging league.
In addition to his club duties, Chukwueze has been an important figure for the Super Eagles at major tournaments, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was part of the team that secured the bronze medal after Nigeria aimed to recover from narrowly missing World Cup qualification.
