Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Coach Eric Chelle has announced his starting lineup for the Super Eagles' 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opening match against Tanzania's Taifa Stars.
Following last Tuesday’s 2–1 defeat to Egypt, the Malian tactician has rung the changes, making eight alterations to his lineup.
Igoh Ogbu, Chidozie Awaziem, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Paul Onuachu and Chidera Ejuke all drop out of the starting side.
The headline decision sees Stanley Nwabali retain his place between the posts, despite lingering doubts over the Chippa United goalkeeper’s fitness in the build-up to the tournament.
Nwabali will be shielded by a back four comprising Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Zaidu Sanusi.
In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi partners Fulham star Alex Iwobi in the engine room.
The Besiktas midfielder also wears the captain’s armband following the international retirement of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Most Valuable Player, William Troost-Ekong.
Out wide, Samuel Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman are tasked with providing width and creativity, supporting Akor Adams and Victor Osimhen, who leads the line.
Kick-off at the Fez Stadium in Fez is scheduled for 18:30 hours, with the Super Eagles seeking to record their 14th opening-match victory at the Africa Cup of Nations, having previously won 13 of their 20 tournament openers.
Super Eagles starting lineup: Nwabali; Osayi-Samuel, Ajayi, Bassey, Zaidu; Ndidi, Iwobi, Lookman, Chukwueze; Akor Adams, Osimhen
